Used in virtually all soil conditions, helical pilings are used for stabilizing foundations and slabs built on suspect soil. With the use of screw piles and steel shafts, helical piles are screwed into the ground with hydraulic torque motors.
Being very friendly in areas of tight quarters, helical pilings are also used for tieback anchoring, deadman anchoring and seismic protection.
Usually made of either steel pipe, steel reinforcement, or cement grout, pin piles usually range in size from 5 to 12 inches in diameter. Looked at as a cost-effective alternative, pin piles are used in soft soiled areas for new or deteriorated foundation projects.
